Money transfer companies compared: the Netherlands

If you need to send money abroad from the Netherlands, your first thought may be to try using your bank card or a bank transfer, only to discover that with the additional fees on top of their exchange rates it costs more than you expected.

Then there are money transfer companies that claim to offer attractive exchange rates or offer fee-free transfers – but in reality, their exchange rates could also be giving you less money to send overseas. We investigated some leading money transfer companies available in the Netherlands for anyone planning to send money abroad by comparing how much it would cost to send and convert 1,000 euros from the Netherlands to British pound sterling to shed some light on how accurate these claims really are. Read on to get into the details of each of the money transfer companies we compared.

How much does it cost to send money abroad from the Netherlands?

Money transfer companies operate by charging an additional margin to the currency market exchange rate, transfer fees or a combination of both. Typically, banks add a margin of between 3% and 6% on top of the mid-market rate. For a more detailed look at sending money abroad and what impacts those costs, check out our guide: Sending money abroad: a guide to international money transfers.
